The Mosque of Sultan Qayetbay locates in one of the side streets off El Manyal Street and Suq El Hamrawi. This Mosque was established by the Army Supervisor Mohamed Ibn Fadlallah El Qadi Fakhr El Din known as El Fakhr. The Mosque was called after his name as El- Fakhr Mosque.

Shams El- Din Abdullah El- Maksi restored the mosque, thus it was known as El- Maksi Mosque that became later on Qaytbay Mosque after Qaytbay’s renovation of the place. In 1216AH, a great fire took place due to the explosion of an ammunition stock inside the mosque. As a result, the decorations and motifs have been deeply damaged.
