Nile River Islands protected area is a group composed of 144 islands located in different cities of Egypt which lie along the River Nile or are crossed by the Nile. Around fifteen islands are spread throughout the mainstream from Aswan to the Delta in an area of more than 30 thousand acres. The Rosetta branch contains over thirty islands which cover around 34 hundred acres. Moreover, there are other nineteen islands which occupy an area of more than 12 hundred acres. They are scattered in around sixteen governorates, including Sohag, Aswan, Giza, Qena, Cairo, Assuit and others.
