Eliahou Halevi (also known as Eliahou Hannavi, Eliyahu Ha-Navi and Hanabi Synagogue) is located in the Nabi Daniel Street, in the city of Alexandria. This 150-year-old synagogue is the only active synagogue in Alexandria. The Jewish community of Alexandria was of ancient origin and existed for almost 2,000 years. The thriving community started after Alexander the Great conquered Judea in 334 CE and transported many Jews to his new city.The Synagogue houses the treasures of the seven other older synagogues in the city. Other synagogues that are now closed are: Menashe, Zaradiel, Green Synagogue and Marakesh.
