x Sabil-kuttab of Ibrahim Bey El-Kabir

The Sabil-Kuttab of Ibrahim Bey El-Kabir lies in Sharia Mohammed Ali next to the Mosque of Shaykh Nouman that traces back to the 19th century. It was established by Emir Ibrahim Bey El-Kabir who was as influential nobleman as Katkhuda and others in the Ottoman period. He was the governor of Egypt in the period (1748- 1754). He managed to gain such political leverage through marrying the daughter of a wealthy merchant. The noblemen in the Mamluk and Ottoman period were usually establishing the Sabil or the cold water fountain to provide the thirst passersby with cold water as a sort of charity. The Kuttab also was a place for studying Quran and prophetic instructions. There is no remains of the Kuttab of Ibrahim Bey, while there are only few broken down remains of the Sabil.
