Cathedral of San Mark
San Mark Cathedral is regarded as the major cathedral in Egypt and the center of the Coptic Orthodox Pope nowadays. It is located in the district of Abbaseya, in Cairo on a piece of land that was once the place of the Coptic cemetery for a long period of time and in another period was occupied with the church of Anba Rouds. San Mark Cathedral was built in 1968 and was inaugurated by President Nasser, The Emperor Hilasilasi of Ethiopia and the Pope Kirolos VI, Pope of Alexandria.
The most distinguishing feature in the interior design of the Cathedral and its style of architecture is its huge size; it contains seven churches including Anba Rouds Church. The relics of San Mark were transferred to the cathedral by Pope Paul VI after being taken to Italy.
