The Mosque of Mahmud Pasha locates in Salah El Din Square nearby the Madrasa of Sultan Hasan . The mosque was established by Mahmud Pasha El Maktul who served as a governor in Cairo for two years. He was a tyrant man and he was murdered in 1568.
The mosque is decorated on the Mamluk style of decoration. This is obvious in the ornamentation of the façade with bays of stalactite cornice and beautifully designed merlons. Like the Mamluk buildings, the mosque has one over three windows used for illuminating the interior plan and these windows are brightly colored till now. The Minaret of the mosque is the only thing that has the Ottoman style with cylindrical shaft of a conical cap.
