Material : Limestone Width : 11 Height : 11 Found in : Deir Al-medina , Thebes (1934) Dynasty: XIX Excavation : The French Institute of Oriental Archaeology Archeologist : B . BRUYERE
This Ostracon (fragment) is much of an artist's sketch of a certain imaginative scene . It was found in the rich archeological site of Deir El medina , Thebes (now Luxor) . It is unsurprising that the skillful artists and craftsmen from Deir El- Madina had designed such a piece for they are known for being the professionals who made works of art out of the royal tombs of Biban El-Moluk .
The surface of this fragment is decorated with a scene depicting a cat posing on its back legs with a stick on its hand and leading six geese in order to food . Painted above the geese (in the top right) are four eggs in a nest . The interpretation of this Ostracon is not clear and its purpose is difficult to understand , but it is evident its painter took a great deal of care in carving it in admirable minute detail .
