Maya was one of the prominent political figures in the New Kingdom in the reign of Akhenaton who acquired numerous positions and held many titles such as: General of the Army, Fanbearer, and Royal Scribe. The walls of his tomb were once decorated with depictions indicating the titles he acquired but most of it have been erased later. The Tomb of Maya locates on the northern side of Tell El Amarna area in El Menia. The remaining scenes in his tomb include texts with the biography of Maya, depictions of Maya worshipping Aten, as well as other scenes of the royal family. There are some unfinished columns in the hall on the right hand of the tomb like those found in the Tomb of Ay. Worth admiration with in the tomb of Maya are the rough-rock-cut statue of the deceased placed in a statue niche beautifying one of the corners of the tomb.
