The Church of Saint Behnam and Saint George in Old Cairo
The Church of Saint Behnam and his Sister Sarah locates in Old Cairo or Mist El Qadima District and was dedicated to commemorating the two martyrs who were killed by their father for converting to Christianity. The interior plan of the church consists mainly of two sanctuaries that were dedicated to Saint Bahnam. Of special interest in this church are the marvelous ivory inlaid screens beautifying the area before the sanctuaries. The church encloses the relics of some saints such as Saint George and Saint Cosmas and Damian and others. This church is annexed to another church called Saint George Church that consists of two sanctuaries too. It is admired for the finely decorated screen with nice icons for Saint George and some other men of religion. The relics of Saint George are placed in the northern Sanctuary and sided by his icon.
