Suez City is the capital of the Suez Governorate that is regarded as one of the major ports in Egypt. It locates on the southern terminus of the Suez Canal and bordered with Ismailiya Governorate from the north, the Red Sea from the south, Cairo and Giza from the west. In the vicinity of the city stand two important free zones in Suez Governorate which are Port Ibrahim and Port Tawfik. In the past, the city was considered an important transition camp for the pilgrims to Mecca, and was renowned for aromatic spices trade.
