El Sharqiya is a governorate located in the north-east of Egypt with El Qalyoubiya Governorate to its south, Ismailiya to its east, El Daqahlia to its west and El Manazala Lake to its north. It covers about 4911km² and comprises of a large number of administrative centers, cities and towns. It is linked with neighboring governorates including Port Said, Gharbia and Cairo with railroad that facilitate commercial transactions among them.
Throughout history, El Sharqiya was regarded as the eastern gate of Egypt from which invaders were usually able to enter the country.
