Visitors of Tunis have a great passion to taste the delicious Tunisian food and try something new. You can get a delicious meal in the city's delightful seafront suburbs Sidi Bou Sa'id and Gammarth and enjoy the wonderful sea views. Sit on mute-colored sofas on raised platforms and smoke your sheesha (waterpipe used to smoke tobacco) with a good Turkish coffee in an airy courtyard. Medina

If you come to medina, you will see the tables fill the narrow alleys by the Zaytouna Mosque and you are then allowed to sit in the finest restaurants in Tunis. Some of the popular ones there that serve food at affordable prices include Fast Food in Ettoumi Street and Mahdaoui in Jema Zaytouna Street. The medina intimate, elegant restaurants are ever-busy, so if you get here late, there will not be much choice left. The best cafes in medina include the Cafe Ez-Zitouna (Jemaa Zaytouna Street) which encloses tiled arched rooms open to the street. You can also have an unforgettable meal at M'Rabet (in Souq el-Trouk), Dar Hamouda Pacha (in Sidi ben Arous), Cafe Chaoechin (in the Grand Souq des Chechias), Dar EI-Medina (in Sidi ben Arous Street), Dar Hamouda Pacha (in Sidi ben Arous), Dar Bel Hadj (in Des Tamis Street), and Dar el-Jeld. Service at these places is fast and gratifying.



Ville Nouvelle

Charming as it is, the Ville Nouvelle comprises some of popular, elegant, friendly restaurants and cafes in Tunis. Such places offer traditional Tunisian food in pleasant, relax surroundings. Some of the cafes there serve delicious cheap-as-chips tasty traditional food in rooms with views over the busy main drag. Try the fresh fish and seafood, grilled meats, spicy Sfaxian dishes, the paella, and a varied range of salads (such as Roquefort and walnut). You can not visit the city without trying the mechouia (grilled peppers and tomato with olive oil and garlic, served garnish with olives or tuna). The menu is always excellent, with special mention going to the harissa and to the chocolate mousse.

Drinking in Tunis Enjoy a soft drink at one of plentiful cafes at the city's northern suburbs. Some of these cafes play a mix of lounge and pop music that attract men and women, both Tunisian and foreign. Among the famous cafes and restaurant are: Brasserie les 2 Avenues, Cafe de Paris, Oscars, Piano Bar, Le Boeuf sur Ie Toit, and Le Boeuf sur Ie Toit. Some of the cafes are lit with funky blue neon and have tables outside; some others contain a dance floor and terrace, live music and regular DJs, live gigs and Sunday jazz evenings. The Theatre de l'Etoile du Nord is one of the most refined café that offers no alcohol catering to a mixed crowd of men and women.
