The large artificial 'Fish Pond' (also called the "Man-made Lake") lies about 4 kilometers northwest of Mut, the capital town of El Dakhla Oasis. In 1998, the water of the pond covered an area of 300 feddans. This huge reservoir was established to develop the fishing industry in the oasis. The whole project is managed by both the Egyptian and German governments Lovers of meditation and bird-watching will be fully satisfied with the wonderful views and the fascinating variety of migrant birds swarming from Europe. Unfortunately, neither fishing nor swimming is permitted at the site.
