El Manzala Lake is one of the major lakes in Egypt for its remarkable location and its fish wealth. It locates on the north-eastern corner of the Delta of the Nile and overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. It stretches for about 60km, 40km width and its depth is about 1.3 meter. The salinity rate of water in this lake differs from a place for another and the most salt area is that nearby the Mediterranean Sea.
El Manzala is one of the districts of El Dakahlia Governorate renowned for its fish wealth since most of its inhabitants earn their living from that area. It provides the country with a large amount of its fish production yearly, yet it suffers from the erosion of its land by the passage of time. The government pays a great attention currently for protecting the lake from the biological pollution for protecting the fish wealth in the area.
