Zagazig is the capital of El Sharqiya Governorate located about 80 km to the east of Cairo. The city is built on Bahr El Muizz Canal (the ancient channel of the Nile) that is a branch of Ismailiya Canal to be a residence for the workers in the barrages of the eastern branch of the Nile. The main economic resources of the city are driven from agriculture, commerce, textile industry, and the administrative services. Additionally, within the city’s limits stands Zagazig University, one of the tremendously great universities in Egypt. It was mainly erected to promote the educational and regional development of the governorate. It comprises a large number of branches in most of the specialties and provided with a highly qualified teaching staff. Zagazig is the birthplace of many famous figures in Egypt including Abd El Halim Hafez, Ahmed Zaky and many others.
