xTomb of Kakhent 2

Many Old Kingdom tombs were found at the Cemetry of el-Hammamiya. Among them are three decorated tombs, belonging to the reign of Khufu. The first tomb, facing the top of the steps belongs to Kakhent I, who held the titles ‘Chief of the Tens of Upper Egypt’ and ‘Overseer of works in the nomes of Upper Egypt’. The second tomb on an upper level belongs to another Kakhent. This Kakhent was a ruler of Upper Egypt and was given the title ‘Chief of the Tens of Upper Egypt’ and ‘Overseer of the Guilds of Upper Egypt’. His wife is named as Khentkaus, ‘Prophetess of Hathor and Seth’. The entrance passage is decorated with multiple scenes of offering. The tomb contains a statue of the deceased as well as several ritual scenes (now seriously damaged). Inside the main hall are several funerary scenes (now badly damaged).
