xMut al-Kharab Travel Information

Remains of the village of Mut al-Kharab (Mut the Ruined) which lie southwest of Mut, the capital town of Dakhla Oasis date back to different periods in the history of the country. This site was frequently stolen by thieves searching for Pharaonic treasures. Enclosed by a Roman wall, the village contains the ruins of a temple. Found at this rich archeological site were: pieces of sandstone columns; two stelas of the Twenty-second Dynasty (now in display at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford); a dried up well about 40 meters (128 feet) in diameter; as well as a short water tunnel.
