The Mosque of Mustafa Fadil Pasha situates few meters downward Sharia Port Said. Next to this mosque one can find the remains of the Mosque of Emir Bashtak : the Minaret and the Portal that date from 1335. These ruined parts are attached to the mosque of Fadil now. In front of Mustafa Fadil Mosque appears a beautiful Sabil of Fadil’s mother with handsomely decorated windows and circular front. This Sabil has finely colored inscriptions, wooden eaves, and rococo scrolls that are worth seeing. Before building this Sabil, the Khanqah of Emir Bashtak was standing in the same place. The Mosque of Fadil Mustafa was established by Emir Fadil Mustafa who was a half brother of Khedive Ismail and he was exiled to Istanbul after being accused of plotting against the Khedive.
In Istanbul, he occupied many prominent jobs such as the Wazir and the Cabinet Minister. He died in 1875 and is buried in his small beautifully ornamented mausoleum on the right side from the entrance of his mosque. This complex is worth visiting for its historical value and for the charming style of decoration that is used in it. The entrance of the mosque is admired for its canopy portal that has some beautiful stalactites and rosettes on it.
