Islam
is not based merely upon the Holy Koran . Rather , it rests in part upon what is known as the Sunna . The Sunna is a great body of traditions of the Prophet's sayings (those not forming a part of the scared book) , actions , practices , and decisions handed down from his immediate companions . The first collection of these was made in the second century of the death of the Prophet (Pbuh) . These traditions are sacred and authoritative .
