The Badarian people were keen in developing the industry of pottery , seeking to render it smoother and more decorated . They produced red black-edged pottery and decorated their pots with drawings of plants and figures . Pharaohs were bred to hunt and think for themselves , and that is why they invented ways to make hook sticks to be used in hunting sea birds .
