Suez is a governorate in the east of Egypt . on the eastern bank of the
Suez Canal
and the Gulf of Suez of the
Red Sea
. It covers about 25 , 400km and its capital city bears the same name . It is bordered with Ismailia Governorate from the north ,
Red Sea
from the south ,
South Sinai
from the east ,
Cairo
and
Giza
from the west . It is a place of a great history dating back to the ancient Egyptian times and religious value since it was one of the places where the
Holy Family
stopped at during their journey to Egypt . It comprises of five main districts including Suez and Feisal . The national day of the governorate is 24 of October that commemorates the great role of national resistance against the Israeli troops in 1973 war .
Basically , the main economic resources for Suez Governorate are driven from the logistic services related to the
Suez Canal
, the petroleum refineries , gas industry and the quarries of limestone , clay , coal , petroleum , marble , and
limestone . Therapeutic tourism attracts multitudes of visitors from every corner of the world into many places in the governorate , especially the new resorts of Ain El Sukhna and other monumental places such as Mohammed Ali Palace in Suez .
The current prominent position of Suez is attributed to its Public Free zone that was constructed in 1975 and is located in two places: Port Tawfik and Asadeya and both of them overlooking the Suez Canal . Moreover the governorate is supplied with all the essential services of electricity and water supplies , telecommunication network and highways and railroads linking it with the other governorates .
