After the death of Amenhotep III , his young-aged son succeeded him to the throne and after four years of his accession he called himself Akhenaten . He transferred the capital of Egypt from Thebes to Tell El Amarna and made Aten the chief god of Egypt . Numerous colossi and depictions of the pharaohs were discovered in the archaeological sites of the Temple of Aten that was constructed as a cult for Aten in the early part of Akhenaten Rule .

This fragment depicts a portrait of the king with the traditional features of Amarna sculpture including the almond-shaped eye , small and thin nose and highlights the royal majesty of the king to a great extent .
