This luxuriously decorated necklace was discovered among the treasures of the Tomb of Mereret , daughter of Senusret III . It was presented to the princess by her brother Amenemhat III who is depicted on the pectoral .

The pectoral of this gold necklace is admired for its monumental design and its brightly colored paintings over it . Amenemhat III is portrayed brandishing his sward and torturing an Asiatic Bedouin of his enemies . The two depictions of the pharaoh facing each other are surmounted with a vulture with spread wings as a sign for the protection of goddess Nekhbet for him .
