This necklace was found among the treasures of the tomb of Mereret , daughter of Senusret III . It is made of gold beads inlaid with and turquoise , carnelian , and lapis lazuli and centered with a skillfully made pectoral .

This attractive necklace is assumed to be a gift from the pharaoh to his daughter since the pectoral is adorned with his name . The pectoral portrays two sphinxes with falcon heads holding two prisoners . This is the traditional depiction of the pharaohs of ancient Egypt that was used to indicate the victory of the sovereign over his enemies as a sign for his power . The falcon head is topped with two plums and surmounted with vulture with spread wings that represent Nekhbet who is protecting the king . The two sides of the pectoral are framed with two lotus flowers , symbol for union of Egypt under the rule of the pharaoh . The cartouche of the pharaoh is depicted in the area between the two sphinxes and beneath the legs of Nekhbet .
