This necklace is one of the treasures discovered in the funerary chamber of the Tomb of Princess Khnumit , daughter of Amenemhat II . It was found in a very bad condition and placed around the neck of the mummy and then it was restored to regain its former charm .

The necklace was usually placed among the other funerary objects in the tomb of ancient Egyptians as an accessory and an amulet . It was known as Usekh and believed to protect the deceased in the other world and ward off the evil forces .

The collar consists of six rows of pendants and two falcon heads on either side . Four of these rows of pendants consist of hieroglyphic signs: the ankh , symbol for eternity; the djed , symbol for stability; and the uas , symbol for power . The other rows consist of drop-shaped gold beads .
