Miniature models were skillfully made for the deceased to accompany and serve him/her in the journey in the hereafter . Made from painted wood , these models of boats– made from strips of rushes tied with cords– were found of in a serdab in the tomb of the notable chancellor Meketra (of early the Twelfth Dynasty) in Deir el Bahari in Luxor . The tomb's owner represents a realistically-portrayed scene of a boat sailing on the Nile . Resting on a wooden panel , theses green boats were found among the grave goods and other 25 wooden miniatures of male and female figures involved in daily life activities and labors . The ends of the boat are shaped like papyrus plants . A number of oarsmen are shown moving the boat with two large paddles fixed to poles near the stem . Some fishermen are pictured using ropes to free fish from the net tied between the two boats .
