This wooden model of a boat was found among the grave goods of the notable chancellor Meketra (of early the Twelfth Dynasty) in his tomb in Deir el Bahari . The tomb's owner represents a realistically-portrayed scene of a boat sailing on the Nile . Miniature models were skillfully made for the deceased to accompany and serve him/her in the journey in the hereafter . The ends of the boat are shaped like papyrus plants . Below the roofed canopy supported by four columns sits Meketra with haughtiness . A number of oarsmen are shown moving the boat with two large paddles fixed to poles near the stem .
