This wooden model was found among a great set of grave equipment within the Tomb of Meketra , the chancellor of Kings Mentuhotep II and III , who lived during early the Twelfth Dynasty . His tomb is well renowned with its miniatures that represent minute details on how the ancient Egyptians used to live . This boat houses a number of sailors on board , observed by a baldĀheaded captain who gives them orders to follow . Partly torn , the sail is made from the same fabric of the long white skirt the sailors wear . Most distinct is the cabin where Meketra used to rest . It is roofed with matting and decorated on the outside with painted shields .
