Material : Limestone Height : 24 . 5 CM Found in : Tell El Amarna () Period : The New Kingdom Reign of : Akhenaton Belonged_to: Akhenaten
This head of Akhenaten was discovered in Tel El Amarna during construction of a road for the visit of King Fuaad of Egypt . It is a good example for the most classical style of Amarna art but there were some effects from the former period . the effect of the Middle Kingdom sculpture appears clearly in the resemblance between this head of Akhenaten and the one of Amenhotep III .
Akhenaten or Amenhotep IV is depicted with serene but firm facial expression wearing the blue crown with small concentric circles that were used to represent the battles that the king entered . The crown is ornamented with a copra in its center as a symbol for royalty . This statue is regarded as perhaps the most beautiful and meaningful image of Amenhotep IV or Akhenaten that reflects his composed elegance and haughtiness .
