Port Said National Museum



The National Museum is situated in Palestine St., in the city of Port Said. It was officially opened in 1987. With a variety of displays, the museum houses a priceless collection of artifacts dating back to the prehistoric, Pharaonic, Coptic, and Islamic Periods and covers the history of the digging of the Suez Canal. Among the exhibits are two Pharaonic mummies, a faience shroud and painted coffin; sarcophagi; Islamic manuscripts; coins; a number of Ptolemaic funerary masks; some Islamic tiles and mashrabiyas; Coptic textiles and the coach of Khedive Ismail. The museum is open from 9 AM until 4 PM, but usually closes for lunch.
