El Gammalia or El Gammaleya is one of the administrative centers in El Dakahlia Governorate that locates 20 km away from El Manzala Lake. It was a part of Dikirnes for a long period and then was separated from it and considered as a city by its own. It covers about 2100 km² and comprises of a number of smaller towns and villages. El Gammaleya is known for that name because it was regarded as a station where the caravans have rest at during their tiring journeys on camels. The city enjoys a brilliant history since it witnessed the patriotic confrontations between Egyptians and Napoleon troops that ended with the victory of Egyptians.
