Birds Villa

Located right north of the Roman Amphitheater, the Birds Villa is among the most recent discoveries in Alexandria. It a Roman house dating back to c.50-300 AD. It was discovered in 1998. The Villa of the Birds is so named after the exceptional pavement depicting nine recognizable birds: pigeons, peacock, parrot, quail and water hen. During construction of the glass shelter, archaeologists discovered another mosaic that depicts a panther using very small stunning cubes of marble, stone and glass paste. Nearby, there are the remains of the imperial bath complex and the Odeon Theatre.
