Aswan Old Dam
Aswan Dam, or the Old Dam, was built during the British Occupation. Works began in 1889 and finished in December 1902. The dam is 1,900 meters long and its original height was 54 meters. It was raised in two phases, 1907–1912 and 1929–1933.
In 1946, the dam was almost overflowed and rather than raising the dam a third time, it was decided to build a second dam 6 kilometers to the south of the old one.
