Gold Necklace from Ptolemaic Period

This necklace is a good example for the gold works of the Ptolemaic period . It consists of a plain thread ending with two hook- shaped clasps for closing it and a number of small pendants centered with a large pectoral .

The central pectoral is a perforated gold sheet with arched top connected to the thread with a small ring . It is adorned with the depiction of Horus as a child or god "hor-pa-Idurd" with his finger in the mouth , holding the sign of Sistrum in his hand and the wearing the double crown over his head .

The other small pendants include the Udjat eye of Horus , symbol for good health , and other pectorals of Bes , guardian of pregnant women and marriage , and six small orbs . These pendants were believed to be good charm for its wearer and were used by both men and women
