These gold , luxurious , funerary sandals were found among the treasures of Tanis found in the intact Tomb of Psusennes I in Tanis . Significant treasures including gold funerary masks , coffins and numerous other items of precious jewelry were found in this burial . Generally , royal mummies had sandals on the feet after totally wrapped with bandages; and this was to provide protection to this part and obtain a lavish rebirth of the deceased in the afterlife . Likewise , gold sheets were rolled and placed over the mummy's fingers and toes to maintain the immortal functions of these essential parts . The pair consists of a sole topped by another section fastened to it . At the front , the soles curve upwards; and thin symmetrical lines run through the whole sole to act as a frame . In the center , there are other patterns with the shape of the bone of herrings and the back portion (the heel) is decorated with a botanical depiction carved in the form of a rose with multiple petals .
