A great set of grave goods (including gold and silver vases , jars , finger sheaths , sandals , masks and jewelry) were found in the grave of Undjebauendjed in the Tomb of Psusennes I , in Tanis . This funeral mask was one of the objects discovered within the treasures of Tanis . Generally masks were placed on mummies to identify the dead body and to maintain immortality . This mask pictures the face of Undjebauendjed , an important figure in the court and the army's general of king Psusennes I , the third king of the Twenty-first Dynasty . Among the titles he held were: "The Prophet of Khonsu" , "The General of the Armies" , "The Head of the Pharaoh's Archers" , "The Director of the Prophets of all the Gods" and "The Justified of the House of Osiris , lord of Mendes" .
The gold mask shows the most impressive facial expressions . Its discoverer , Pierre Montet , found that the mask was fastened to the man's mummy by six perforated splines . The general has his ears sticking out and his mouth is made more attractive with the faint smile it gives . This is made more intense with the nice dimple the man has down his chin . The beauty of the eyes is highlighted with the eye black that outlines them . There is a nice chromatic contrast made by the white color of the eyes' pupils (made by the white glass paste) and the black color of both the eyeball and the eyebrows (made by the black glass paste) .
