Esna

Esna is the second major city in Qena Governorate after Qena City located about 55km away from Luxor and about 700km from Cairo . The name , Esna is mainly derived from the old word Latopolis (which means 'in honor of the Nile perch') . To reach Esna , one can easily use the railroad and enjoy the view of the attractively appealing countryside interrupted from time to time by the archeological sites and the artificial irrigation channels . Additionally , some visitors of Esna prefer traveling by Nile cruises which terminate their journey there and turn back after crossing the barrage .
