Diadem with Serapis

This elaborate diadem was discovered in El Kharga Oasis in the archaeological site of that was a temple for Isis and Serapis in the Roman Period . It was discovered with other gold items including attractive bracelets with similar style . These items are supposed to belong to one of the priests of the temple and were used during the ceremonies .

The crown is shaped as a small ring adorned with gold leaves and small buds . The front of the crown is adorned with astatue for Serapis sitting on the throne with thick and curly hair and wearing a chiton and cloak . He is sitting with one hand folded next to him while the other one is holding a lance in the other one .

On either side of the statue appear some pleated votive goel leaves exactly like those ornamenting the bracelets found with them .
