Merenptah was one of the sons of Ramses II and the successor of Ramsses III who ruled Egypt in the late 18th Dynasty . This bust depicts the king wearing a ribbed nemes with cobra on his forehead , a false beard , and a large necklace . The pharaoh facial features are portrayed in the Amarna style with narrow eyes and heavy eyelids and double eyebrows , thin nose , large ears , and a rather wide mouth . The shoulders of the pharaoh is decorated with cartouches of and hieroglyphic inscriptions for the royal names of Merenptah including: The Lord of the Two Lands , The sacred ram of Ra , beloved of Amun , and The Lord of Diadems .
