Nasser's foreign and military policies were central in provoking the Six Day War in 1967 . After the defeat of Egypt , Syria and Jordan by the Israeli forces , Israel occupied the Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip from Egypt , Golan Heights from Syria , and West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan .
